Where to eat in St. Petersburg
#Saint-Petersburg

She is one of the most popular Insta-girls in Russia, she’s both beautiful and smart, she’s the whole package. Diana Korkunova (@diana_korkunova) told us about her favourite cafes and restaurants in St. Petersburg. And because she has a reputation of a trendsetter of the northern capital, after this article is released, you will probably have to book a table a week in advance in any of the establishments listed below.

Camorra Pizza e Birra

Kovenskiy per., 14

Hidden away in one of the old courtyards of St. Petersburg, there is a very cozy bar slash pizzeria. During the summer you can recognise the restaurant by the shabby chairs, standing on the street near the entrance. In cold weather, you will be guided by graffiti and a massive charcoal iron door. Inside - green walls with primitive drawings and a tiled bar. It seats a tiny (30 people max), and the menu can fit into a few lines; as the name implies, nothing but beer and pizza is served here. And that is a special thrill of its own!

Mickey & Monkeys

Gorokhovaya Str., 27/26

The most fashionable coffee house from the founders of the Coffee Room network. Despite the fact that the institution proudly calls itself a restaurant, everything here feels more like a French cafe or a bakery, with its sweet aroma of fresh pastries and melodious tinkling of the spoons on porcelain cups. I love this place for its polished to a shine, "chess" floor, wide-open windows and palm trees. And in the morning they serve lazy dumplings just like my grandmother used to make!

Duo Gastrobar

Kirochnaya str., 8

A small and very neat restaurant on Kirochnaya. Everything is simple, and that's something captivating. The interior is dominated with pale colours - white walls, beige floors and the same colour tables. Nothing catches the eye except a turquoise velvet sofa near the wall. But you get used to it quickly. The menu is the same - honest and friendly - all dishes are prepared with no more than three or four ingredients. But the taste is quite complex: full-bodied, delicate and original.

Cococo

Voznesensky Pr., 6

A place adored by the St. Petersburg bohemia, opened by two of the biggest “newsmakers” of the city - Sergey and Matilda Shnurov. The restaurant was built on "contrasts", and you can see it in every detail of the place - the whole style reflects the couple: it is immediately clear which elements were added by aristocratic Matilda, and which half is the reckless, lead singer from "Leningrad". Rough chairs and a marble bar, newspaper clippings on the walls and iron lamps on the ceiling. The menu is full of such conflicting surprises.

Steak House

Moskovsky Prospect, 186

If I'm craving meat, this is where I come. The steakhouse occupies several floors, all of which are decorated in dark-coloured, interior design - classic leather sofas, bottle-green table tops and black walls. I know that the owners of this restaurant are extremely picky when it comes to choosing the best meat; they can fly to the other side of the world to learn about a new way of roasting, or to seal a deal with a better supplier. They are constantly self improving, and it is reflected in every single dish.

Tartarbar

Vilna per., 15

This restaurant was opened by the same people as the Duo Gastrobar. A uniform style, of course, is still present, however the Tartarbar, despite its playful title, looks more respectable and mature. The most curious thing in the bar is its specialties: many tartars, tataki, carpaccio and ceviche. Personally, I love the lamb tartare with parmesan biscuits - it's incredibly delicious!

Terrassa

Kazan str., 3A

Perhaps the most famous "Ginzovsky" (Ginza Project Network) project in St. Petersburg. Of course, first of all, thanks to a stunning view on the Kazan Avenue. The restaurant is on the roof of one of the tallest buildings in the centre, and there is nothing nicer than spending the evening sipping wine and casually (in fact, with bated enthusiasm) scanning the panorama of the city.

Graf-In

Konnogvardeysky Boulevard, 4

A restaurant, a bar, and a channel with a funny name “Graf-In”. Inside is a luxury establishment with elegant furnishings, arched walkways and crystal decanters everywhere, even hanging from the ceiling. My friends and I just adore the hookahs here; they fill them with sangria, soda and even rose petals! A sophisticated cocktail menu created by the famous Moscow mixology, Alexander Kan.

Food Park

Department store ”Giant", Alexandrovsky Park, 4 / 3A

Come here if you are, oh, very hungry, otherwise you will be left with the feeling that you missed out and haven’t tried everything. There are no specific directions or specialties, and that's the beauty of it; you can have everything at once. Burgers, pizza, sushi and wok; grilled, steamed or fried. My advice: evaluate your strengths before going in.

Ki-Do

Suvorovskiy pr., 51

A fashionable sushi bar network spread all around St. Petersburg. Each space has its own unique design, but my favourite one is on the Suvorov Avenue. There are several long, high tables and chairs, that resemble a bar. The entire place is lit with mystical green light, the atmosphere is very authentic, and the sushi - probably the best in the city!

Ketch Up Burgers

Leteyny pr., 59

"Two grilled meat patties" are the brand-chef Vladimir Pavlov’s specialty that is beyond praise. The man behind the Ketch Up Burgers chain knows a thing or two about fragrant, fresh, mouth-watering burgers. An ideal combination of price versus quality. Apart from the fact that everything is super tasty, the prices are very affordable. Here, you can meet friends for dinner or a have a business lunch with colleagues.

Big Wine Freaks

Instrumentalnaya Str., 3

A secret bar that is trying very hard to stay just that - a secret. The choice of wine and champagne here is perhaps one of the best in town. It's incredibly atmospheric and stylish: a crystal chandelier hanging from the concrete ceiling, a red bar, and the lighting is almost none existent - making all of it just that much more mysterious. You’ll spend a long time searching, and even if you do find it, there’s no guarantee you’ll get in: it is better to book a table well in advance.
